A high school friend just had her first book come out this week. It’s the story of a tall, gangly high school senior who gets discovered by a modeling agency and inevitably tangled up in the dirty world of fashion. It’s like Kate Moss, but without that nasty Pete Doherty. And it’s set in two of my favorite places, Chapel Hill and NYC. I am hoping for a veiled cameo amongst the high school friends.
It’s gotten some good press (here and here), so I encourage people to check it out. It’s a young adult novel — call it chicklette lit — so perhaps too young for most of IAYM readers. But maybe a much younger sister or a much older niece would like it! Or, just maybe, someone who needs something lite [sic] to read after The Road.

hmmmmm. this could ruin my anonymity, but i believe your high school friend went to the same college as me. i will check it out for sure cause i’m a sucker for young adult stuff (as my hsm question may have given away).
