Sunday’s New York Times has a nice piece on the film critic Roger Ebert. He announced recently, via a letter to readers of the Chicago Sun-Times, that he will not return to his TV show (recent surgery has left him without his voice), but he will resume reviewing moves for the Sun-Times.
The Times calls Ebert “the virtual embodiment” of the profession of film critic.

It’s True! Britney Spears Will Guest Star on How I Met Your Mother
This just in: A representative for show runners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas says “it’s true” that Britney Spears will appear as a guest star on CBS’ fan-favorite comedy series How I Met Your Mother this season.
The show’s Fox rep also just confirmed the casting.
So, yes, it is happening. Britney will be on HIMYM.
As for details on her role, the reps would not comment, but we are hearing Britney is set to appear in the 14th episode of the season. And insiders tell us exclusively that the most likely role for Britney in that episode is “Abby,” a girl who works in Ted’s doctor’s office. She’s described as “sweet and friendly and scattered and a little nerdy—a female Michael Cera.”
This would mean that most of Brit’s scenes would be with the show’s lead character, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor). In the episode, Ted has a crush on another girl named Stella who works in the doctor’s office, and he sports a different look to impress her every time he comes in for a visit.

You gotta admit, if nothing else, this casting will do precisely what we fans have been hoping for for years: Bringing more mainstream attention to a truly deserving show.

Leo and Mark Ruffalo take in the Celtics/Cavs game on Wednesday night in Boston. The Celtics, possibly the best team in the league (IMHO), won. The pair are in Boston shooting Martin Scorsese’s latest, Shutter Island.

i’m sure by now everyone has seen sarah silvermans i’m f*cking matt damon clip …. perhaps you’ve already seen this one as well, but, i just came across it and it is hysterical!
This is IAYM’s personal fave look of the Oscar evening — Marion Cotillard in Jean-Paul Gaultier. And, it turned out to be a charmed evening for her, going home with the award for best actress in “La Vie en Rose.”

Another extended embrace followed another top award. Best-actress winner Marion Cotillard held onto presenter Forest Whitaker, squeezing him with all of her might. “Merci, merci, merci,” the French actress said when she stopped at the ABC “thank you” camera, where winners can name all of the people they wish without any time restraints.
But Cotillard found she no longer had any words. “I think I can’t talk anymore,” she exclaimed. As she was escorted to the press room by Whitaker, the grinning actor said, “This is huge. It’s magical, isn’t it?”
“It’s crazy,” she said. Whitaker, who won last year for The Last King of Scotland, told her, “It’s meant to be. It’s beautiful.”
